Talks on the Vocal and
Performing Arts of Kunqu

In this series of talks, we will look at the vocal styles of various roles in Kunqu from an aesthetic perspective, covering xiaosheng (young civil male), zhengdan (orthodox female), laosheng (old man), guimendan (high born lady) and daguansheng (crown-wearing male) roles. Each will be complemented with video clips of classic performances by virtuosi in order to illustrate the close relationship between the vocal and the performing styles.
